Food and drink in green Spain

An incentive for visiting green Spain is the possibility of sampling the gastronomy. Thanks to the vast coast there is an excellent supply of fresh fish, shellfish and mollusc. Meat from animals bred locally is also recommendable.
The visitor should try Fabada Asturiana ( stew with white beans, black pudding, pork and Spanish sausage), Pulpo a Feira, Galician prepared octopus, “Cocido Montañés” a Cantabrian stew and delicious snacks in the bars in the Basque country called Pinchos or Pintxos.

Dozens of different varieties of cheese and a wide selection of desserts make up, broadly speaking, the gastronomy of the Cantabrian regions.

We must not forget to mention the locally produced wines, both red & white and cider being typical from Asturias and Guipuzcoa.

Eating customs

As in other parts of Spain, main meals are served generally between 1.30pm and 3.30pm. If you are planning for an evening meal you would expect to eat between 8.30pm and 11.30pm.
You will find endless number of eateries of all kinds, generally all offering good food at decent prices.

Home Made Dishes

You will still find many places that offer home made desserts, which are always referred to as Casero (home made) We reccomend if possible to try these home made desserts, you won´t be dissapointed.
