Pontevedra
Pontevedra is a small, pleasant city with a population of approx. 80.000 , situated at the mouth of the river Lérez in the region of Galicia, northwest Spain.
The old part of this delightful city has been declared an Area of Historical Monuments with cobbled, porticoed streets and impressive houses. Among the many interesting sights is: the “Basilica de Santa Maria” in gothic style but with a plateresque façade.It was built by wealthy merchants at the beginning of the 14th century and has been declared a National Monument.
Provincial Museum
The Provincial Museum is housed in several buildings: “Castro Monteagudo“, a small Baroque palace, and next to this “Garcia Florez” which houses crafts: engravings, religious sculptures and “Sargadelos” (Galician)
pottery. The “Fernandez Lopez” building has a collection of Spanish paintings from 19th – 20th century and a fantastic library. “Saramiento” has temporary exhibitions,cave engravings, Roman epigraphs pottery, music rooms and engravings and contempory paintings by Galician artists.

“La Plaza de Ferrería” is the most emblematic square in Pontevedra it gets its name from the earliest industry of iron forging.
“San Franciso” church, is also of interest, “San Bartolomé” church stands out due to a mixing of Baroque and Italian style archecture.
